Belarus Forum BROADENING THE HORIZONS

On September 29 and 30 the Belarus Forum took place in Minsk. It is the first forum in Minsk, in which representatives of the state organs and international financial institutions participated together with private foreign investors, experts and Belarusian entrepreneurs. Discussions focused on topics like current aspects of investment cooperation and the draft of a roadmap. Other panel discussions dealt with public-private partnerships as a way to attract investors and the importance of the financial market for economic growth.

The opening speech of the forum was held by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Andrey Kobyakov. Afterwards the former President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Thomas Mirrow, and others delivered their speeches.

Among the participants were Natallia Nikandrava (Director of the National Agency for Investment and Privatization), Dmitry Kalechits (Deputy Chairman of the Board at National Bank of the Republic of Belarus), Aleksander Yaroshenko (Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus) as well as other board members of international enterprises.

Robert Kirchner (project manager of the German Economic Team (GET) Belarus) took part in the panel “Foreign Direct Investment in Belarus” and discussed about the FDI potential of the country together with other participants. Mr. Kirchner pointed out, that macro stability and improvements in the regulatory framework as well as investment promotion will help Belarus to realize its FDI potential.
